Silhouettes 101

We are on the last day of vacation... this week just flew by too fast.  Last night we had an amazing sun set and as we were all hanging outside I got a few photographs of our guys playing b-ball and my sister in law ( who is due in Dec).

If you don't know how to take silhouette photographs.... here is a super quick lesson

1. Pick a subject or object that tells a story to you
2. Place them in front of a strong light source (the sun ..:)  (I usually try to place them directly in front of the sun to block it.) You will notice in the last 2 that I was going for a different look though..
3. Take your exposure reading from the light source - (not from the subject- you want the main subject to be very underexposed- black even!)
4. Focus on the subject and click away

  5. What a great lesson on silhouettes. They are beautiful!! Something about them always captures a great moment and/or action, not just the face of the subject.
